Lumberjack Cutting Down Trees

Save Our
Golf course AND GORE CREEK VALLEY AND THEIR NATURE And wildlife

Dear Resident of Lane Cove,

DON'T LEAVE IT UP TO SOMEONE ELSE- WE NEED YOU.

SAY NO TO THE DESTRUCTION OF THE GOLF COURSE PARKLANDS

Please let me introduce myself, my name is Adrienne Cahalan and I was born and live in Lane Cove. Lane Cove is unique as you know- generations of residents before us have worked tirelessly and fought to create and save our bushland, green space and wildlife for future generations which we all enjoy each day.

However, the fight is not over, our generation has to do our part to preserve what generations of Lane Cove residents have done before us. Lane Cove is beautiful, but being close to the city it is constantly under threat from over development and destruction of our green space, open space, sports fields and wildlife including the beautiful powerful owl (not in any order!).

You may be aware that Lane Cove Council have partitioned the golf course and have recently submitted a DA for a multi storey sports and recreation facility on the site at a cost of $52 Million dollars of rate payers money (money the Council doesn't have) but at the more expensive priceless cost of our pristine golf course parklands and wildlife corridor. 84 trees to be razed to the ground and the wild like in them destroyed for a sports facility- cafe and gym of which we already have plenty which need our patronage and support.

The Council DA destroys the magnificent green corridor that is the golf course parklands which is public space, after generations have fought for it; all destroyed with the stroke of a pen.

  • Once a bite is taken out of the apple- the rest of it goes brown.

  • The community panel only decides on what is left after the sports facility land is carved out-not the whole parcel of parklands.

  • Once the green lung is punctured, the damage can not be repaired.

Here is a link to an article here that summaries the development: https://inthecove.com.au/2021/06/09/lane-cove-council-reveals-plans-for-multi-sports-facility-at-the-lane-cove-golf-course/

Given the Council have put through the DA and submissions close 30 June, I have a stall in the plaza where residents can meet at midday on 19th June to have their say and have their voices heard.

  • Personally, I couldn't stand by and watch the precious bush corridor that is the Lane Cove Golf valley be bull-dozed, the valley destroyed when an indoor sports facility can be built anywhere.

  • We had a sports facility at 266 Longueville Road until Council re-zoned it from sports to commercial and gave it to Australian Unity. This can be given back to the community. Write to the Australian Unity Board- ask them to opt out of the lease and give it back to Lane Cove- this site will have 70 trees (and their residents) destroyed if the aged care goes ahead;

  • Do we need more cafe's, meeting rooms and gyms?

  • Do we need 300 out of area traffic and cars coming into our community each weekday and weekend?

At the stall, our meeting will discuss how to:

  • Save our green space and wildlife at the golf course parklands;

  • Save our sports fields (return 266 Longueville Road to the residents from Australian Unity for netball or basketball courts);

  • Save Lane Cove from decades of debt and the risk of receivership with a $52M white elephant at the golf course parklands;

  • Save our ovals from turning into plastic parks;

  • Stop the Council pitting our local businesses against each other with this new sports facility (cafe v cafe, gym v gym with this new sports facility);

  • Stop the Council pitting our sporting organisations against each other to create this new sports facility (basketball- netball v golf and so on);

  • Encourage residents to run for Council- nominations close 29 June;

  • Save Lane Cove from slowly, but surely, being concreted (or synthetically turfed) over.

I hope to see you next Saturday at midday at the SOS Lane Cove stall in the plaza and please pass the message on to interested people.

WE NEED YOU
